Practice day three saw designations, and the Lions making a couple of moves with the Steelers losing several key contributors. Steelers Friday: The Steelers will be short-handed at Edge, with both TJ Watt and his backup Nick Herbig both Out, leaving the start to Rookie Jack Sawyer. In addition, their entire lefts die of their OL will be backups, and starting CB Pierre will also miss the game. Everyone else is trending to be in, unless they are a healthy scratch. Thursday: Steelers went the wrong way, with five players (albeit one for Rest) joining the NP or LP group including four starters. Especially concerning them is their DL and OL, as they have six of those starters banged up to some degree. The big one to keep an eye on id Center Zach Frazier, that would be a blow to middle of their starting OL. Wednesday: Pittsburgh went with a estimated report coming off MNF appearance and the two big names were Watt as a NP and Rodgers was a FP. Others starters on the list were LT Peat (LP), LG Seumalo (NP), DT Harmon (FP) along with several reserves. Something to keep an eye on for Sunday. Decker and Vaki both were elevated participants, with Decker LP and Vaki FP today, while the rest of the folks retained their designations from yesterday. Everyone seems to be trending to play except Kerby Joseph and possibly Graham Glasgow. They were flagged a total of 8 times. The Cincinnati Bengals committed 6 penalties for 30 yards. They were flagged a total of 6 times. Together there were 14 penalties for 86 yards. There were 14 total flags in this game. Notable Carl Cheffers and crew are one of the most heavy-handed teams calling penalties in the NFL after 15 weeks. This will be the second time they have officiated a Lions game this year, also having them back in Week 5 at Cincinnati. In that game, they hit the Lions for 8 (away) and the Bengals for 6 (Home) penalties. Although the Lions and Steelers are both in the bottom third of the league in terms of penalties committed, I have concerns that this may be a flag-fest as this Crew’s tendencies focus on the Line of Scrimmage and the defensive backfield, which doesn't bode well for either DET or PIT, and they each share the same top 5 penalties as this crew in their most called offenses.

Week 16 brings the stretch run of the NFL regular season and of course, NFL games on Saturdays as College Football is in that lull before the playoffs and bowl games ramp up. Will the Lions keep the back-and-forth win and lose streak going, or will they break through and win two in a row for the first time since Week 4 & 5? This will be a great game even if storylines will still be centered on the Stafford and Goff dynamics, with the teams being more evenly matched than some would like to state. The rams have a healthy upper hand over the Lions, but the Lions tend to feed off adversity and having their backs against the wall. This is not a “must win” but would be super helpful to have a W over the NFCX West leader heading into the final weeks of the season. Lost in the emotion of last week's Dallas win, was that the Grey Manes have a NEW leader for the weekly pickem. Dan has clawed his way back, and the only one that had faith the Lions would beat the red-hot Cowboys, and is now in the lead due to the tiebreaker. Brent is second Mike Week 15 has the Lions traveling to the west coast to battle the LA Rams. The Rams have been on a very good roll this year (minus the bump in the road against Carolina, more on that in a few). The Rams Offense has been humming along in 4th place in the NFL currently. They have a very nice balance between the run and the pass and are very proficient in the Red Zone. They also seem to be very good on the injury front. Meanwhile the Lions are mid pack in Defense in the NFL. The Lions showed some life on the D-Line last Thursday against the Cowboys. They will need to get home and pile up some sacks on Rams QB Matt Stafford (remember him ??) He is the No 1 QB in the NFL this year while under pressure. So, the Lions need to get home, getting pressure on him is not enough. On Defense the Rams are also midpack but a few spots higher than Detroit’s Defense. The Rams give up an average of 315 yards per game. They are very good in 3rd Down Defense and are spectacular in Red Zone Efficiency ranked No 2, they are also good at taking the ball away. The Lions come in as the No 1 Scoring Offense and No 3 overall. The Lions average 378.7 yards per game. Just a few more yards per game than LA. This game has potential for a Shootout. The Rams are 5.5-point favorites in this game per Fan Dual on 12/11/2025. I think the teams are evenly matched offensively and the best shot the Lions have is to run the ball and have long drives to keep the Rams Offense on the bench (this is how Carolina beat the Rams); however the Lions are missing playmakers on both sides of the ball. This will impact this game. The Rams will cover and outright win the game. Just too many injuries to overcome against one of the best teams in the NFL. Rams: 31, Lions 24 Brent It is getting close to NFL playoff football as we enter December of the 2025 season. The LA Rams have the best record in the league and the Detroit Currently sit at 8-5 and one game outside of the playoffs if they were to start today. The Lions are one game back of the Chicago Bears and will need to finish one game better than the Bears to make the final game in Chicago matter for the Lions. On the journey toward that clash, the Lions fall from 74% to make the playoffs to 52% with a loss. Also complicating the Lions making the playoffs is the fact that they play on the road in LA, Minneapolis, and Chicago with the Pittsburgh Steelers coming to Detroit prior to Christmas. In contrast, the Bears host three games and only have a single game on the road. It certainly seems like the Lions needs to win as many games as possible with only winning out locking the Lions into the Wild Card Round. The Lions would win the tie-breaker with Chicago if they win out given they whipped the Bears in game two this season. Having laid out the scheduling and win/lose scenarios, The keys to this game appear to be straight forward. In order to win, the Lions must do a few things to lock down a victory against the Rams. The Lions did a fantastic job of mixing up coverages last week against the Cowboys similarly to what they did against Tampa and Baltimore. Of note, Matthew Stafford is one of the top NFL quarterbacks when facing teams that play a high-percentage of man-to-man coverage. Stafford excels in throwing against teams that match up primarily in that coverage. Of significance, Stafford has the fourth largest drop off in passing rating against zone coverages. The Lions must do as they did in earlier games this season and mix up coverages well to ensure Stafford doesn’t get into a routine. Second, the Lions did a masterful job against Dallas using inside runs and getting Gibbs into the passing game early. The offensive line must hold up and give Goff time against a very strong LA Rams defensive front. The Lions are the #1 offense in the NFL and have weapons all over that side of the football. Amon Ra and Jamo need to have big games to continue drives and must limit drops to a minimum to aid in converting. Monty represents a change of pace back that can be used later in the game to wear on the Rams defense. Third, Goff and the offense must limit turnovers while creating turnovers by the Rams offense and special teams. Takeaways and converting on third downs, or preferably earlier, will allow the Lions to control the clock, elongating drives and controlling the time of possession. Special teams are essential to winning this game and keeping the Lions in control of making the playoffs. In the end, there is little margin for error. You all may recognize the score from last week! Since y’all are superstitious, I am keeping the score! Go Lions!!!!! LA Rams 38, Lions 17. Chris The Lions roll into Los Angeles facing a Rams offense that's been absolutely surgical since Week 9. First in passing, first in receiving, first in rushing, first in run blocking. When Matthew Stafford returns to face his old team, he'll have locker room livestream weirdo Puka Nakua making catches that defy physics (23 of 29 on contested targets, potentially historic) and an offensive line that's finally protecting at a top-10 level instead of the usual disaster we saw last year. Here's the problem for the Lions: Terrion Arnold's done for the season, Brian Branch is out, and Kerby Joseph's status is unclear. You can't show up to a shootout with half your secondary in street clothes. The Lions will need to control this game the old-fashioned way, leaning on Jahmyr Gibbs, who's quietly been the best running back in football over the last two years. His 6.3 yards per touch leads all backs this season, and if Detroit can dominate time of possession like Carolina did a few weeks back, they've got a shot.But asking a banged-up defense to slow down Stafford, Nakua, Davonte Adams and this raging hot Rams attack at SoFi? That's a tall order. Expect fireworks, expect Gibbs to cook, and expect the Rams to pull away at home and put the Lions playoff hopes in jeopardy. Rams 38, Lions 28 Dan Two weeks ago when the Lions were coming off the Thanksgiving day loss to the Packers, I looked at the remaining schedule and thought that they would have to 4-1 the rest of the way to ensure they make the playoffs Of course, that was before Branch ripped his Achilles against Dallas, but I still am holding to that projection. The team I figured the loss would be against was the Rams, on the road, and I am sticking with that here. I do have some doubts that our Cardiac Kitties may pull this out though, as they do have a favorable matchup on offense, and the way the Lions use their LBs does counteract a lot of what LA likes to do with running game and play action passing. Regardless, I am hoping they win, but I think the Lions lose in a close one. Rams 31, Lions 28

They were flagged a total of 9 times. The Detroit Lions committed 6 penalties for 79 yards. They were flagged a total of 6 times. Together there were 14 penalties for 157 yards. There were 15 total flags in this game. Notable Alan Eck and crew are one of the least penalizing officials in the NFL. They are lenient on the home team, and bunder the avg flag count on the away team as well, which bodes well for both the Lions and the Rams. One trend with this crew, they are hawks around the Lion of Scrimmage, with Offensive Holding, False Start and Illegal shift as three of their top five called penalties. The others are DPI and Illegal contact. Although the Rams are the least penalized team in the NFL, they do have one flaw which is Offensive Holding. They have been called for 19 Holds on 71 total penalties, for a whopping 27%, good for two holds a game. Their next highest is 9 False Starts, which also aligns with the Eck crew's tendencies. The Lions will have to look out for the Holding as well, but also the DPI which is one of their Achilles for the DBs.

The Lions once again let a game (literally) slip through their fingers against a team they were favored again and should have beaten. The same issues that have plagued them since the injury bug hit flared again, with communication problems in the Defensive Backfield and on the OL the main problems allowing the Lions to underwhelm. With the Cowboys vising on Thursday night, both teams are on even footing in terms of prep, although the injury situation is less than ideal for the Lions. Both teams' offenses are almost a dead match, and their defenses have the same weaknesses, but the Cowboys defense is bottom third if not bottom five in almost all major metrics. This should be a close matchup and likely a higher scoring affair when the dust settles. Week 14 Staff Picks Once again, everyone took a loss last week when the Packers pulled it out on Thanksgiving, so the scoring remains the same, with the tiebreakers changing slightly. This week we should see some movement, as we will either end with a tie at the top, or a clear-cut leader going into the final four games of the year. Mike The Dallas Cowboys visit the Motor City for Thursday night game against our Detroit Lions. Trends is this week’s theme. Over the last 3 weeks the Cowboys have been trending upward while the Lions seem to be trending downward. Over the last 3 weeks the Cowboys have defeated the Raiders, Eagles and Chiefs. They have won all 3 of these games averaging 29.3 pts per game. They also have the No 1 ranked Offense in the NFL. During this same timeframe the Lions played the Eagles, Giants and Packers and have gone 1-2 during this stretch and are averaging 22.3 pts per game. The Lions have the # 3 ranked Offense in the NFL. This may indicate a high scoring affair. The Defense for the Cowboys ranks # 29 in the NFL giving up an average of 376.2 yards per game and allowing 41 TD’s. However, they have strengthened the middle of the DL with the acquisition of Quinen Williams at the trade deadline, this is also the weakest spot on the Lions Offensive Line. The Lions are ranked No 14 in overall Defense in the NFL giving up 316 yards per game and allowing 33 TD’s. The big topic of conversation of late with the Lions defense is their lack of QB Sacks. The DL will need to get to Dak Prescott Thursday. As always Special Teams will play a big role. The Cowboys have probably the best FG kicker in the NFL in Brandon Aubrey. I would not be surprised if he connects on a 70-yard FG before the end of the 2025 season. The Lions seemed to have tightened up their Punt and KO coverage over the last few games. Let’s hope this continues. With Trends being the theme, I am going with: Lions - 24 Cowboys - 31 I don’t see the Lions banged up Secondary keeping up with Lamb and Pickens. Plus, the Cowboys may have a score to settle with the Lions after last year’s game. Cowboys 31, Lions 24 Brent The Detroit Lions came into this season off a 15-2 record setting 2024 NFL season. The Lions suffered the losses of both Offensive and Defensive coordinators to head coaching opportunities in New York with the Jets and the division rival Chicago Bears. The Lions have had moments of excellence however, not consistent enough to achieve their 2024 performance. The Lions stand at 7-5 and are two games back from a Wild Card opportunity. Unless a dramatic loss by the Bears and Packers, not likely given they play twice guaranteeing two wins by the division rivals. Also. The Lions have lost twice to Green Bay and once to Minnesota with a single win over the Bears. The Lions only advantage is a head-to-head tie with the Bears. Therefore, the Lions must win and hope the Bears lose twice to the Packers. The Lions likely need to win a minimum of 4 games to remain eligible to get into the playoffs. This game is critical to the Lions postseason hopes. Despite all of the injuries, the Lions have immense talent. In the end, the Lions will not be able to overcome the large number of injury losses they are confronted with. Cowboys 38, Lions 17 Chris Dallas rolls into Ford Field with three straight wins and Dak Prescott firmly in the MVP conversation. He leads the league in win probability added, and the George Pickens trade has paid off big. Pickens and CeeDee Lamb give defenses no easy answers, and outside of Rock Ya-Sin - our CBs don't present a physical matchup against them. The Lions are banged up - to say the least. The Sun God is questionable, the offensive line is compromised, and the defense is struggling. But this offense still has explosive firepower with Jahmyr Gibbs and Jameson Williams capable of scoring from anywhere. The difference? Dallas fixed their defense. Since adding Quinnen Williams, they're playing with real confidence and just took down the Chiefs and Eagles back-to-back. This will be somewhat of a shootout, but the Cowboys have momentum and health on their side. Dallas 38, Lions 27. Cowboys 38, Lions 27 Dan I am going to keep this short, and sweet and bullet point it out: Lions' backs are against the wall with their playoff hopes dwindling and success having been just a missed assignment, bad bounce or ill-timed penalty away each game they have lost The Lions haven't lost back-to-back games since 2022 The Cowboy's Defense is mid, at best, even with trade deadline help The Lions defense has the same starters back this week as last, not trying to incorporate anyone in on a short week with just walk throughs, so communication and play should improve. Injuries will impact both teams Dallas’ linebackers are neither playmakers, nor fleet of foot. Kenneth Murray is their best, and he is a 245lb 4.52 guy. Hello Jahmyr Gibbs, to the boundary! Bottom line, I expect the Lions to come out angry, fired up and looking to make a point. Only the KC and 1st Packers game did it feel hitting the fourth quarter that there was little hope of a victory. I expect both teams' offense will likely move the ball a lot tonight with the Lions defense getting just enough stops when needed to allow the Offense to score enough to win. Lions 31, Cowboys 28

The final injury report is now live, and the Cowboys will be down two starters while the Lions will be without a couple but have significant more that are questionable. Cowboys Wednesday: The Cowboys ruled out Guyton and did not activate Diggs but also saw upgrades to Clowney and everyone else is unchanged and ready to roll. Tuesday: Cowboys had three starters upgraded to FP Tuesday, while the rest of the team status remained the same. S Wilson, WR Pickens and DE Fowler were the upgrades. The Cowboys are tracking to be mostly intact on Thursday night. Monday: The Cowboys appear healthy, with four guys listed as FP in addition to their two NP and multiple guys with LP. Not seeing anyone of note other than T Tyler Guyton that likely won't go, but injuries can be fickle and flare up on nay play. Lions Wednesday: The Lions are a hurting bunch. Raymond, Wright and Joseph were all NP all, and Zylstra wasn't activated, so they are all out. More concerning is that St Brown and Awosika both were NP, but are questionable, so these are ones to watch. Decker and Sewell went from NP to LP, so they should be trending in along with the other Questionable players. Tuesday: Terrion Arnold went on IR should have been the bad news, but it was the five downgrades from Monday. Included on that list are Sewell and Awosika from no issues to NP and LP respectively along with Joseph, Decker and Zylstra all from LP to NP. The rest of the players' designations stayed the same. Monday: Two big pieces of news, St Brown along with Arnold were NP today, but Joesph was finally back as a LP. Outside of that, the Lions started the clock on Shane Zylstra (TE room is getting decimated) with LaPorta on IR and Wright a messed-up trachea. Outside f that, everyone else was where they were expected, although Ratledge, TeSlaa, Davenport and Sewell have all come off the list.
