Lions Put OL Gio Manu on NFI list, future continues to be in doubt

In a surprise move, the Detroit Lions yesterday put OL Giovanni Manu on the Non-Football Injury List with an injury designation, catching many off guard because he started practice and wasn't in any health updates form Campbell.
At today's Day 2 press event, Campbell clarified the situation, and it doesn't bode well for the young OL from Canada. Per Campbell, Manu had a "previous injury over the summer that was not disclosed." This was discovered after practice yesterday when the medical staff examined it and the determination was made that he would go on the NFI/Injury list, with a timeline of 12-14 weeks. That range puts a return between Oct 22nd and Nov 5th, Weeks 7 to Week 9, and after the Lions Bye week.
It is likely that due to this being an undisclosed injury, then the Lions are likely not happy with the former 2022 Fourth-Round pick. With Manu already squarely on the roster bubble, I would think they will look to find an exit strategy that may involve an injury settlement. It feels like putting him on active NFI/Injury is a procedural move to allow them to address it at the 53-man cutdown, but he will continue to eat up a roster spot in the interim until he is placed on reserve NFI or Cut.
For those keeping track, absent an injury settlement, Manu is slated to create cap savings of a little over $1M this year and next if he is cut.
