Lions swap TEs Waiving Zach Horton and signing Anthony Firkser

The Detroit Lions made another roster move on Friday morning prior to Day 3 of camp, re-signing TE Anthony Firkser and cutting TE Zach Horton.
Dan Campbell just wrapped his press event about 20 minutes ago and this news hadn't come out yet, but with TE Ty Conklin laid up for the next couple of weeks and the pads coming on soon, it's likely that the team wanted to get another experienced veteran into the TE room to make sure that the offense had full capabilities. Firkser is 31 and Horton is only 23, but Firkser is much more athletic an
d must have caught the Lions eye in that short stint last fall.
Firsker was signed by the Lions to the practice squad in November last year after Sam LaPorta was injured and brought up to the active roster on 11/26. He was not re-signed as a Free Agent after the year by the team who had loaded up the TE room with six players. Horton has been a Lions since May of 2025 primarily on the practice squad and was signed to a futures deal once the season ended.
