Detroit Lions sign RB Jahmyr Gibbs to Record Breaking Contract
RB Jahmyr Gibbs of the Detroit Lions has been holding a "sit in" while trying to get a new contract form the Detroit Lions. He was joining fellow 2023 draftee RB Bijan Robinson of Atlanta with this tactic, and they both got what they wanted in the end. Robinson signed a record deal on Tuesday morning making him the highest paid RB in the NFL, and Gibbs followed it up by re-setting the RB market on Thursday with a slightly higher APY and guarantee.
Robinsons was drafted 8th overall and Gibbs 12th, and both have outperformed their lofty draft position and become the two best RBs in the NFL. The Robinson Deal was a three-year extension with a record $51M guaranteed that set the new RB APY at $22.5M, besting Saquon Barkley's $20.6M.
The Gibbs deal is also a three-year extension and is reportedly for $75.75M in new money with $51.5M guaranteed and an APY of $22.525M, slightly besting Robinson's deal.
In 2025, Gibbs was 7th in rushing Yards (1223), t4th in Rushing TDs (13), had the 3rd longest Rush (78 yards), averaged 5.0 yards per carry and was 3rd among RBs in Receptions (77), Receiving Yards (616) and receiving TDs (5) in all three categories.
