Detroit Lions Make Several Moves Ahead of Week 1 Matchup

As Week 1 officially started on Labor Day, the Detroit Lins made several moves to their roster and with players changing numbers to get the ball rolling.

First up are the transactions, where the previously waived OC Seth McLaughlin and RB Jabari Small were added back to the Lion Practice Squad. This was due to the Lions Promoting LB Jo Bachie to the main 53-man roster from the PS and the placement of OL Mason Miller on the Practice Squad/Injured list.

Both McClaughlin and Small were injured at the time of the 53-man cut down, so the Lion waited until they were healthy in order to waive them without injury settlement, clearing them to return to the PS immediately vs having to wait and additional three weeks. The Lions still have one spot open on the main 53-man roster, and Dan Campbell alluded that they knew what they were doing with them, but it appears that spot may be reserved for a WR/KR/PR potentially, whether that is Tom Kennedy or someone from outside the organization.

The second update is the announcement was for the Detroit Lions 2026 Captains. This is the first time under Dan Campbell that the Lions have had seven captains.

The last update comes with some additional Jersey numbers being changed. The first batch came after the initial cut to 53-man roster, and four more changes were announced yesterday.
